SDS-Polyacrylamide Gel Electrophoresis (SDS-PAGE) Calculator For Use With Bio-Rad 40% Acrylamide/Bisacrylamide Solution

Below is a calculator for figuring out how much solution to make up for a particular total volume of gel, assuming you are using one of the popular ready made Bio-Rad 40% acrylamide/bisacrylamide solutions (40% acrylamide 19:1 bisacrylamide catalogue #161-0144 and #161-0145, 40% acrylamide 29:1 bisacrylamide catalogue #161-0146 and #161-0147 and 40% acrylamide 37.5:1 bisacrylamide catalogue #161-0148 and 161-0149). Bio-Rad also sells 40% acrylamide with no bis-acrylamide, so you can make up any ratio of acrylamide to bisacrylamide that you want (catalogue #161-0140 and #161-0141). Just determine the volume of your SDS-PAGE apparatus and use this to calculate how much of each solution to add. This can save you a lot of wasted solution!
